Who We Are

We are faithful

Our faith in four words? God is still speaking.

We believe that in the quiet stillness of meeting for worship, we can hear messages from God. Each of us has direct access to the Divine through the Light that enlightens every person who comes into the world.

If we listen, we can be faithful to what we are being called or led to do.

For more details, see the «Faith» section of our Faith & Practice.

We are LGBTQ-affirming

Gender, sexual, and romantic minorities of all stripes are welcome here. We believe all are equal. Couples of the same gender go through the same marriage clearness process as couples of different genders. Our restrooms are all gender neutral.

Our testimonies of equality and community confirm that when we embrace that of God in everyone, including the full spectrum of gender identities in our Meeting, our worship deepens and our community is enriched.

Minute on Transgender Welcome

So if you’re looking for a «gay-friendly church,» you’ve found one.

We are Friends

We are members of the Religious Society of Friends—Quakers. We take our name from something Jesus says in the Gospel of John:

No longer do I call you servants, for the servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all that I have heard from my Father I have made known to you.

John 15:15 ESV

We’re generally considered a liberal church, though we prefer the term «meeting» since what we do is meet for worship.

We are part of a larger regional grouping of Quakers, Baltimore Yearly Meeting, which is associated with both Friends General Conference and Friends United Meeting. If you’re interested, you can look into our history.
